Dear Father
of Lights, and of our Lord Jesus Christ
God of battles, and Giver
of Life.
we pray for those who have
served our nation,
who laid down their lives
to protect and defend our
freedom on many a foreign field
From Concord to Yorktown;
from Vera Cruz to Antietam;
From San Juan Hill to
Flanders; from Iwo Jima to Chosin
Reservoir;
And from Cam Rahn Bay to
Ramadi.
We pray for those who have
fought,
whose spirits and bodies
are scarred by war
and whose nights are
haunted by memories
too painful for the light
of day...
We pray for those who
serve us now,
especially for those in
harm's way:
shield them from danger
and bring them home to
their families and loved
Ones, unscarred and
unscathed by battles’ sordid
harms and hurts.
Turn the hearts and minds
of our leaders, as well as
our enemies, to your glory
and honor, and
to the work of justice and
a harvest of peace...
May the peace you left us,
the peace you gave us,
be the peace that
sustains,
the peace that shall
surely saves us as a nation blessed
beyond every other nation
in annals of history. Amen.
