National Day of Prayer
1 May 2014, Anno Domini
Psalm 24
The earth is the Lord's, and the
fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
2 For he hath founded it upon
the seas, and established it upon the floods.
3 Who shall ascend into the hill
of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands,
and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn
deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the
blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them
that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
7 Lift up your heads, O ye
gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall
come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye
gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall
come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
The following is from Nehemiah
4:15-20
15 And it came to pass, when our
enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to
nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
16 And it came to pass from that
time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other
half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the
habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
17 They which builded on the
wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of
his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
18 For the builders, every one
had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the
trumpet was by me.
19 And I said unto the nobles,
and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large,
and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
20 In what place therefore ye
hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight
for us.
To
the laity, clergy, and all bishops; as members of the Anglican Orthodox Church,
we must take up the fight that this nation as so recently quit.
We must be “a light
or shining city on the hill”, we must be an anchor, a lighthouse, a guide in
this present darkness, the lost of this nation must see that a people calling
themselves ‘Christ-followers’ are being faithful. We must be the shelter in the storm. We must be the people willing
to live as Christians {true Christ followers}, in this most perverse generation
since before the Great Awaking.
The time is now. We must pray for our nation. We
must acknowledge that Christ is our King, God is our Father, the Holy Spirit is
our Guide.
And most importantly
we must pray that we, individually and as faithful congregations of the AOC,
that we follow the path of righteousness.
4 “...He that hath clean
hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn
deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the
blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them
that seek him, that seek thy face...”
Let
us pray:
O
|
God, merciful Father, who despisest not the sighing of a
contrite heart, nor the desire of such as are sorrowful; Mercifully assist our
prayers which we make before thee in all our troubles and adversities,
whensoever they oppress us; and graciously hear us, that those evils which the
craft and subtlety of the devil or man worketh against us, may, by thy good
providence, be brought to nought; that we thy servants, being hurt by no
persecutions, may evermore give thanks unto thee in thy holy Church; through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
W
|
e humbly beseech thee, O Father,
mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and, for the glory of thy Name, turn
from us all those evils that we most justly have deserved; and grant, that in
all our troubles we may put our whole trust and confidence in thy mercy, and
evermore serve thee in holiness and pureness of living, to thy honor and glory;
through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
